friends only (mostly)

  • Dec. 30th, 2009 at 12:00 PM
Hi, welcome to my journal. If you haven't been here before, let me tell you that most of my personal entries are friends only. If I know you in real life and you have an account here on livejournal, feel free to add me and leave a comment that you've done so. I'll add you back. Otherwise if I don't know you yet, i'll take a look at your journal before deciding if i'd like to add you as a friend.

thanks~!
I was reading an interesting thread today on the Ars Technica OpenForum and thought i'd do this as well.

Five things about yourself that you wouldn't have believed ten years ago
  1. That I would be living in Hawaii. I certainly don't regret moving away from Dallas. I've seen and experienced many things that wouldn't have been possible still living in Texas.
  2. That I would be good at dancing Salsa. It's sort of funny that I would have to move 3000+ miles away to learn it since it's so popular in Texas.
  3. That I would respect athletes and try to be more athletic myself. In high school I was definitely with the geeky crowd and didn't really ever exercise.
  4. Still single. There have been some short relationships, but nothing serious or long lasting yet.
  5. That I wouldn't be into anime anymore or interested in building computers. I still love Japanese music and culture and work with web development, but I only have a laptop now and don't really care much about building desktop PC's.
I expect several of you to fill this out too, it's interesting to look back on yourself from ten years ago.

so funny!

Here's a japanese gameshow where they play human tetris. It's hilarious!

I thought these couple of sites were funny:

http://www.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijk.com/
They offer email addresses like yourname@abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzabcdefghijk.com

http://hugeurl.com/
Sick and tired of those short URL's? get a huge one instead! If you want to contact this guy, you just have to email him at loremipsumdolorsitametconsecteturadipisicingelitseddoeiusmodtemporincididuntutlaboreetdoloremagnaaliquautenimadminimveniamquisnostrudexercitationullamcolaborisnisiutaliquipexeacommodoconsequatduisauteiruredolorinreprehenderitinvoluptatevelitessecillumdoloreeufugiatnullapariaturexcepteursintoccaecatcupidatatnonproidentsuntinculpaquiofficiadeseruntmollitanimidestlaborum@hugeurl.com

I'm trying to enjoy my vacation to Maui and I may be forced to return early because of THIS. While it seems like the protesters on Kaua'i are getting really physical (blocking the port where the Superferry is trying to dock), the protesters on Maui have lawyered up and have gotten a judge to issue a Temporary Restraining Order on Superferry trips to Maui. There's a hearing scheduled for Wed August 29th for the Superferry to oppose the TRO, so if i'm lucky they will resume service on the 30th and I can leave like normal on the 31st. I may be forced to leave a day or two early since that's the only way i'll be getting my car back to O'ahu.

Great photos i've found recently on Flickr

Great photos i've found recently on Flickr:

Harajuku Girls are the new Geishas - Really awesome portraits of Harajuku Girls (it's an area in japan known for fashion and style)

Roman Rivera's Photos - This guy has a neat processing effect on this photos that make them look like paintings. It's only applied to the buildings and background though, not the people.

Mai An Hoa - Emotional Landscapes - This lady really has talent, many good self portraits; She's one of those women who can manage to look different in every photo.

TommyOshima - Alternate Cameras - This is a collection of images taken with alternative cameras, some of them are really interesting.

multifaceted - 365 Days - This cute korean gal is doing a year of self portraits, and they're very creative.

Back up your data/pictures/files... NOW!

This is just a public service announcement reminding people to back up their files on a regular basis. No, nothing bad happened to my computer recently, but this is something that I try to do on a regular basis since I take a lot of photos and if my computer crashes, they could be gone forever.

Mink - Together Again

I'm really loving this song, and here's the music video for it. They're using CG and a cel shading technique. Her name stands for Made IN Korea, and she's a Korean girl who moved to Japan in her teens. More info is available here.

ever get nostalgic when you hear a song?

I was reminded today of some of the older Korean music that I need to listen to again. I was looking on Jpopsuki and saw the music video for MC Sniper's song, BK Love. This is such a great song, even if it is a little sad. I was inspired to go back through my archive DVD's of Korean music and copy some of my favorite songs so I can listen to them again.

Here's the MC Sniper video:

Son Dam Bi's music video for her debut single, "Cry Eye" is pretty cool:

There have been some really good summer themed songs released lately, check them out:
  • AAA - Sunshine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGgabXzv2UY) - Personally I like the track called Hanabi (はなび) from this single a bit more.
  • Ikimono-gakari - Natsuzora Graffiti (いきものがかり - 夏空グラフィテイ) - This band has such a "cute rock" sound. It's really upbeat and refreshing. You may have heard their song Hanabi (Fireworks) since it was one of the Bleach anime ending songs.
  • UVERWorld - Shaka Beach ~Laka Laka La~ - I like this band's sound as well. The video has a Miami feel to it, there's even salsa dancers.
  • Miss Monday - Ohana (オハナ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d6j7gJs0fk) - She's a rapper that has a lighter style than most hip hop artists, she can flow really well.
  • Ito Yuna - Mahaloha (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8mG9FBKGj0) - This video was filmed right here in Hawaii and features Micro from Def Tech.
  • Double - Summertime feat. VERBAL (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdrqZE6JWIA) - Well, i guess you can't get any more obvious than the title of this song.
I also went back and listened to some old synthpop last night when [info]imogen_blue mentioned Wolfsheim in a journal entry.
